Leaf cutter bee nesting in my alpine pot!

It lives next to where I like eating my dinner so should be able to get some awesome pictures while I eat. I'll water sparingly and watch out for little bee armbands

Leaf cutter bee nesting in my alpine pot!

There's a leafcutter bee nesting in a smallish wide terracotta pot on my patio table! The pot has only a coulple of plants in and the bee has burrowed under one of them - I've been watching it go back and forth with leaves all morning

My question is this: does anyone know if I can still water the plants? Just a little I mean. Also, does anyone know how long thet take to build their nests? By partners awat until Tuesday and hes going to be gutted he missed this!

Feline Invaders.....AKA Cats

Can't cats be trained just to go in a litter tray? That is to say, if a cat is litter trained will it not just go in it's tray (accessed via a cat flap I assume) and not people's gardens? I have always wondered why this wouldn't solve the problem.

Random plant appearing in garden

Looks like a sunflower seedling to me - they have surprisingly thick and rubbery baby leaves.

Do you feed the birds? Perhaps one of them has sown this for you....

Alliums

Hi Frances, the leaves do die back just as alliums start to bud. Mine have been in flower for three weeks now and have no leaves whatsoever. It's my first year doing them, but I have no reason to doubt they will flower next year

Will the larkspur flower this year? How will you look after the seedlings from now on? I've got a packet of seed, but not really up for any more pots of stuff....

Is there such a thing as dark purple stem snap dragons?

Posted: 20/06/2013 at 10:29

I think it must be fairly common - I've got loads of snapdgragons grown from a generic pack of seeds 'Snapdragons - perfect for children' and quite a few have purple stems and purple edged leaves. Some even have leaves with bright pink edges!

Alcea / hollyhock

What a coincidence! I have just acquired two Charter's Doubles in Apricot. I was thinking of putting them against the NW facing front wall of my house, which gets very little direct sunlght, bu tis damp, along with a couple of lupins. So the exact opposite if you!

I look forward to seeing what the verdict is!
