Anyone grown stocks or snapdragons from seed?

Posted: 22/04/2013 at 12:47

I've got loads (actually far, far too many) of snapdragon seedlings and some stocks, both of which I grew from seed. The snapdragons are just sprouting their second set of true leaves and the stocks have about 8 leaves each and are starting lo look like proper little plants. I keep them in a mini greenhouse, with the door open when it's sunny.

Can anyone give me any advice about how to look after them in general - I thought I should just wait until after frosts and then plant them out, but I've heard that stocks at least are quite hardy, so maybe I'm cosseting them too much by keeping them in the mini greenhouse.

Sweet peas or clematis in pots

Oh thanks - I've got tonnes of stones!

What sort of size pot do you put your seet peas in? No idea how big they get at all to be honest.

I have lots of sweet peas ready to go out and two celmatis. I really fancy something like this growing up beside the patio doors - does anyone know whether either of these would be ok in a pot against a south facing wall? If so, any ideas about pot size - I have a 30 cm diameter plant pot...

I have read that sweet peas like a bit of depth and clematis like cool roots, so not sure about this. I'd risk it for a biscuit with a couple of sweetpeas, but not my clematis!

I'e got hundreds of these too - mine only have the beginnings of their first true leaves though - I hope they're not too late!

Don't know what to do re. piching out I'm afraid - hadn't planned on it as I thought they were just a single stem, so not needed.

Do many of yours have three leaves (I mean three seedling leaves, then three true leaves and so on)?

Wild Flower Planting

I think I've seen packets of cottage garden-type annuals sold in clour themed packs in poundland and the like - obvs not the right thing, but maybe they have wildflower varients too.

Sowing Ornamental Grasses

Flowers!?! I hadn't realised it would flower! I'll move into shade and then my tiny Pieris can live in it's dappled shade.

I had no idead about acid, I'm a complete novice! I just picked it up because it's a lovely plant

I don't have any dappled shade yet. At 20cm, it's one of the tallest of my growing collection of very young shrubs in pots. Perhaps I'll leave it in a pot for the time being and see how things develop...

Nutcutlet, I think I've got the golden grass already only I had no idea what it was! Currently sat in the sunniest spot in my garden, so I shall move it!

Pieris in shade

Hello, I picked up a young Peiris, forest flame, in wilkinsons the other week, just because it looked so nice, with it's white flowers and green and red foliage.

I had I thought I might plant it in one of the northernmost corners of my garden, which have yet to get any direct sun this year due to the 5ft fence. I think it is supposed to be in full sun/part shade, but I wondered whether in practice anyone has experience of growing them in shade?
