What exactly is full sun/part shade?

Yeah you're right - I tend to over-worry when it comes to the garden...

Thanks for your reply Verdun

Oh good news - that's made my day! At the moment it seems to me that the west facing bed is warmer, but possibly this is because of the cold east winds we have been having - is there likely to be much difference between the east and west sides once spring gets properly underway?

My new garden is south facing, 4m wide x 10 m long and has a 5 or 6 foot solid fence all the way round. I've got E - W beds running down both sides, c. 1 m wide (not much in them yet).

At the moment, I'd say the beds get direct sun for about 5 hours each, but have not measured this, admittedly.

Is that a decent amount of sun? All the flowers I've started off seem to say full sun or full sun/part shade - are they likely to flower?

I've got some (hundreds) of stock seedlings and alpine starwberries, just starting to sprout their first true leaves - can anyone tell me when they should be ok in the mini greenhouse outside (they are in my living room at the moment).

Also just sown some snapdragons- could/should they go in the mini greenhouse once germinated? I want to start off some tomatoes, but I've run out of space!!

Could I sow sweet peas directly in the ground now or should I wait a bit? Is there anything special I should do, other than following the instructions on the packet and pinching out once they've got two/three sets of leaves? Thanks in advance

So if I put my gliadiolus in pots, can they be left outside in the pots over winter? If not, how about in the garage? There's no light in there whatsoever, but I guess that doesn't matter for dormant bulbs.....?
