Hi insomnia, just seen your photos and noticed the slabs your going to take up, had them in my garden, they are solid, the square ones are heavy, the larger ones, the rectangle ones, and i see at least one, weigh at ton, if your going to move it "walk it",

Hi, my red leafed acers have never looked better, and my verbena bons are at least 6 foot tall with many side shoots, best they've looked in 5 years.

Hi, veg oil acts as a barrier and stops the larvae from breathing through tubes when they go to the surface, it doesn't have to be thick but for best results cover the hole surface area, as it acts on the surface most can be syphoned off if your dubious about leaving it in,

Hi, have you thought about a pergola or some other framework, then you could grow climbers, and you get a space you can use. Your gardener may know about the regulations, but i believe a wooden structure is classed as temporary so might not be a problem, or maybe someone on this forum will know

Cheers Bob, soils been well dug over, found some over 12" down but seems to have died,(black and weak), just want to force it up so it doesn't get a foot hold
