Fold the leaves over to protect the centre, and,  if it gets very cold, a layer of fleece might help.  They do get very sad looking in the winter, but unless it is very young it should survive - new shoots will probably arise next year.  I'd love to have one but no space for such a wonderful specimen - good luck.

The stems of the leaves are very stiff so how do i bend the leaves over the centre?

Hi i have been given two conker trees that have been grown from seed and are about six foot tall in 10" pots.

Now i would like to know would it be ok / worth it to repot into 14" pots and stop at that or just keep them the way they are now as i do not want them any taller?

Thanks

compost or top soil

Sorry it is the compost from Asda and some from my bin too.

My soil is clayish to clay and i have mixed in manure to try and break it down.

I also have a lot of nettle plant food on the go.

Hi i have some excess compost and i was thinking of puting it on my beds instead of top soil.

1 is this a good idea?

2 what is the difference between the two?

Thanks

Hi my garden is always getting water loged and i cant afford land drains yet so i thought of getting hold of a lot of milk crates and putting then in the ground across the width of yhe garden every so often about a foot below the surface coveref with mesh and an old tshirt on the top yo stop soil getting in the crates.
