Kef . My OH is a star in the house, but hopeless in the garden. Doesn't know a plant from a weed.. 

All the same tho if he does the HW it gives me more time in the garden

He is a good one. Before he had his op he couldn't go out to work so he did all the cooking and housework as well as looking after my mother,  who had dementia and drove me bonkers !!!

Looks like you all had a great day. I would have loved to join you, but the distance and other commitments prevented it. Another day perhaps.

Rhod I've never heard of the scarifier blades. Can you get them for any type of mower?  Mine is a rotery mower.

I used a 50/50 mix of multi purpose compost and soil, but I didn't have a black plastic dustbin full of sieved soil left over from when I made my borders.

I can't see it doing any harm using all MPC, that's what is used in pots.
