James Grieve apple

We planted a James Grieve sappling in autum 2011 and have had a small crop of a dozen apples this year, but there doesn't seem to be any new growth on the tree at all, which has quite surprised us.

Question is, should it have grown at all, or is it because its the first year in the ground?

Another question is should we prune it this year to encourage growth next year?

We did actually lightly prune it in the winter, maybe we shouldn't have. Followed these instructions.

Have just read the May edition of the magazine and noticed the article on page 79 regarding the step by step guide on watering your greenhosue when away.

Would a tank the size shown really last 2 weeks with 4 tom plants on top?

Also, where is this one picture availble to buy, a website would be most useful as doing a generic search doesn't find it.

I wonder if its possible to make you own out of some dark storage vessels of some kind?
