Climbing Ivy

Posted: 14/10/2012 at 12:12
Dfb, I love ivy in flower, I pass some on my walk to work from the car park and the flowers are in bud now. Last year scent was wonderful and the plants were full of bees. They need all the help they can get later in the year, especially this year.

Jo, I think they would look lovely with tulips, but then again a pot full of tulips on their own looks great too. Do you ever get over to Harlow Carr, their tulips are stunning. We often go over to Llandudno and they sometimes have beds full of wallflowers along the promenade, beautiful.

FG, sow seeds in early summer. What a wonderful place to live, used to go to Forest of Dean for family picnics as a child.

Just found a guide on Dave's Garden where you can check what the Latin descriptions mean, won't help you remember the full name, but at least you will know what the description means. davesgarden.com/guide/botanaria

I have a nice book that is called something like Latin for plant lovers, I found it in a charity shop. It tells you what words like glauca mean. I'll check out the name for you, I use it a lot.

What's the weather like in your area?

Lovely day, managed to get up to 10, quite nice in the sunshine. I was expecting rain today, so it was a nice surprise.

I grow mine in pots as I like to have them near the back door for the lovely scent. I particularly like the dark red and the dark orange. Lovely photos. I used to buy bare root but I went for some trays of reasonably sized plants this year, rather than the tiny ones. Hoping to put them in tomorrow.

Becks, you are too young to remember the old Cadbury's advert where they presented a CDM medal.

I didn't notice Len, he gets a bit irritated with Bruno and Craig sometimes too.

Chris, apparently B&M are planning expanding into Europe (sorry teaching international retailing class on Tuesday, so doing a bit of reading).

Just watching SCD while eating CDM, so I'll not be dropping 2 dress sizes! Well done, BTW. Sorry!, must have abbreviationitis. What is Jerry Hall on? Am I the only one who finds Bruce a bit irritating now?
