Just having a break for a scone and a cuppa! Afraid not totally focused, just doing a bit of this and that. Have cut down some of the old stems from my very tall shrub rose. The variegated holly next to it has grown like mad, so just trying to work out which bits to cut out.

I don't have a lot of luck with penstemons either Kate. No flowers left on the 2 I bought and no new flowers coming.

Orange flowers

I recently bought a beautiful scented orange flowered azalea, to go with the yellow one I already have. My small garden will be full of scent in May when they are out. Orange Welsh poppies will flower through the late spring and summer. You could also go for some annuals as California poppies, pot marigolds (saw some beautiful marigolds at Harlow Carr yesterday).

Keeping cosmos

They look so pretty Zona, have been around a few gardens this week and seen some lovely shows of cosmos. I am going to grow them next year, though have never done before. The two in your photos look so pretty.

Welcome Denise, hope you are enjoying it so far. Frank and I are both up north, but Frank is more north than me.

Frank, I could whiz up the motorway and be with you by lunch time. I don't mind washing up! I rarely do a roast any more, unless the family is coming round. The first question they all ask when they come through the door, is what's to eat? What's the trick for a good roast beef?

Aftercare of geums

Thanks for all the good advice everyone. I am going to look after my geums much better this year and see if that does the trick. I think I might also get some new ones and see how I do.

how do I add someone to my ignore list?

I agree Zoomer, I love the variety, the humour and the heated discussions. It is so good to be able to chat to people with a similar interest, to get help and advice when you need it and to give it when you can.

What's the definition of a troll then? I only saw the term recently. I've only been on a couple of months, but haven' needed to ignore anyone.

Morning all, looks like it is going to be a lovely day. Decided to spend my final day of freedom in the garden before the onslaught tomorrow. Just having a cuppa and a browse before I start.

Nola, never been to the Rochdale one, as we are only a couple of miles from the Tod one. Haven't been to Newby Hall, is it worth a visit? Is it NT? By the way, if you scroll back a few pages, you will find a list of real names, Geoff, whom you haven't had the pleasure of meeting yet, told me that Penninepetal was too much of a mouthful (or at least a word full!). He's back from France next week and he can always be relied on to make you chuckle.

Morning all, blue sky and sunshine, looks like it might be hotter than yesterday's 23, , but there is a nice breeze. My holidays are over as of today, so I am going to spend it in the garden. Need to get the plants that I have bought this week in the ground, it's a it warm, but is going to rain tomorrow. At least I will be in work!

Have a lovely day everyone. Roast beef, Frank, lovely!

You'd see a big difference in G Riggs Nola, it is a lot bigger than it used to be and they have one in Rochdale too. I pass it on my way home from work, so often go in for a wander. It's difficult to get out without buying something. N. Yorkshire must be a lovely place to live.

Kate, don't think I'll bother with that film. I'm reading a good book at the mo though, Wife #19, really enjoying it. Dound it in the charity shop.

P.S. Nola, hooked already!!
