Morning all, you're right Dan it is quiet without Geoff.

Jean, love the Himalayan balsam idea and quite fancy the get-up! There is so much of it around that we could do with an army to get rid of it.

I heard JR and Sue Ellen o the radio the other day, they seemed really excited to be on again. He has a really deep voice.

A lovely bright almost full moon shining through my living room window.

August in your garden...

This rose has just blossomed in my garden, it was a plant passed on to me, but didn't know what it was going to be and still don't know what is is, but it's beautiful and has a deep scent. Unfortunately just the one flower.

Thanks Berghill, that's what I have in my garden too. Mines not in flower yet, so have been waiting to take a photo to post,so thanks break23 for posting! I've pulled lots up as it was crowding out some of the other plants, but it's still turning up everywhere. Good luck with it.

Where do I start?!

I would start off by working with way you have for a while. do some cutting back and pruning where plants are overgrown and past their best. Do some reading about the plants on this website or the RHS website. Ask the forum for advice when you are not sure what particular plants are, we love to help identify plants from photos. Live with the garden for a year until you see what comes up in each season.

Good luck and happy gardening.

When you have a face to face conversation with someone, do you always stay on topic or do you meander into sometimes totally different territory as one thing sparks another? It's much the same on here, embrace it!

Never mind Becks. I have just been cutting down a phygelus, which has gone mad,but didn't flower very much. The figwort which I was told in another thread was a weed - it was huge, now I've got space for the new plants and taken some stems out of the purple loose strife which is also huge. They look very pretty in a vase with some pink astilbe. But I feel really bad about cutting them all down.

They look like something I planted in my garden, but not sure what it was, lost the label as usual. Beware it has taken over in my garden, it spreads under the soil and pops up everywhere. Last year I dug down about 6-9 inches trying to get rid of it, but is is still popping up. On the bright side, it is pretty and has a nice fragrance. I

I thought it was some variet of lysimachia, but have not tracked it down yet.

Afternoon all, just been out to clear up the rubble in the road brought down by the water last week, fed up waiting for the council to do it. Pulled out all the weeds growing along the pavement for our 4 cottages. Feeling very virtuous. Apart from that a lazy day, ground very wet, so don't really want to go on the garden to plant out all my acquisitions from yesterday.

Got a dark pink Japanese anenome (hope it won't be invasive on my clay soil), a frilly heuchera, a nice dark red grass and a magenta coloured dwarf magenta budleia. I've picked the spot for them, but need to take out something that has outgrown the space.

Could we organise a SWAT team from amongst us led by Frank to deal with the Russian vine? If so, count me in!
