I have just cut the seed heads off my agapanthus. Don't know the name of it but it has white flowers. I just wondered if it was worth potting up some of the seeds and if so what is the timescale to flowing from potential new plants.
Any new gardening programme on TV has to be good news. About time too. I've never seen the Beechgrove Garden programme but am looking forward to it. Thanks "The Cycling Gardner" for bringing this to our attention.

Lyon Greene - many thanks for this info. I will certainly look out for Miracle-Gro Expand n' Gro and Vital Earth Multipurpose compost as I try not to use peat if I can. I don't subscribe to Which magazine but I am sure someone on this wonderfil forum will be able to give us more details. Roll on spring.

Wet and miserable on the Essex coast.
Driven from Wiltshire to Essex this morning. Rain all the way and lots of standing water. Did briefly see a yellowish ball in the sky about half an hour again but it has disappeared again, BUT its not raining at the moment.

Lyn, According to Jane Grigson veg book swedes and turnips are a bit interchangeable the further north you go. '...in Scotland when people talk of neeps they mean swedes...but a dish called turnip purry is invariably a puree of swede'. Is that all crystal clear now?
In the south we just call them swedes and turnips. So much easier.

They have chewed their way through the floor.......................4 inches of concrete!
We had rats in the garden a few years ago and they had chewed through a 9" brick wall. The other side of the wall housed our neighbours garden shed but they obviously found the bird food in our garden worth the trouble. Got a rat scarer to deter them from our garden and the neighbour got the Pest Control people in to put poison down.
