What is this?

I am so thrilled.  Have looked it up and yes! you are right, it is an abutilon.  My description must have been pretty good.  I thank you all, you are great.

What is this?

Can anyone tell me what this plant is?  Outdoors in pot in summer, indoors in pot in winter.  Have taken 8 cuttings last Autumn, all taken and have potted up in single pots.    On windowsill facing S.E.  Main plant has now bloomed, has three more buds on it.  The mother plant is several feet high, has soft, varigated leaves, five points to it similar to a sycamore leaf (I think). The flower is a vivid orange, bell shaped.  I have tried to add a photo but not successful. Love to hear from anyone with ideas as am planning to give cuttings away and would love a name to add. Thanks.

Thanks Urszula.  I have got a feeling that I also bought my compost from Homebase.  I buy quite a bit from there and it is very possible that it came with mine also.  I may make an enquiry with them next time I am there to see if there has been any other comments to them.  After the vine weevil disaster with my beloved fuchias, I am relieved to find out that it is not something that I am generating myself.  Keep in touch if you discover further info.

Thanks Pink Wellies

I have discovered in my compost in pots in greenhouse, a very small, bright green ball which has a white milky centre when squashed.  Today I discovered it in the bag of compost which I have used to repot my fuchias which incidentally are not doing well after being invaded by vine weevil.  Does anyone know what this is?

Good bagged compost?

I have just discovered small bright green balls which when squashed have a milky white centre, in my bag of compost.  First noticed this in the pots in greenhouse and now realise it is in the bag of compost.  Any ideas what this is?

Talkback: How to harvest garlic

Posted: 31/03/2012 at 19:47

I have grown garlic for a few years now.  I plant in October/November and overwinter.  It has appeared now.  When the leaves go yellow I investigate to see how the bulb looks and if O.K. I harvest and hang up to dry.  Some people eat it 'green' and others prefer it dried.  I keep it overwinter in a dark cupboard (the odd bulb in the fridge as I use it) and I am just on my last bulb now.  I am no expert.  Just plant it and wait. I think you can plant it anytime.  Not sure.
