I also wonder if I usually cut the grass too short. It is my mission this spring to try and get it right.

Hi,

I have been in my house for two years.The lawn was fine when we moved in.Our house is on an old mushroom field apparently. Our lawn has gradually become very patchy with the patches like compacted holes. I tried to reseed last year which was a complete disaster. This year it looks even worse. We have a dog. I am not sure if the lawn has a disease or not. I am considering buying a few packs of the miracle patch products, but I expect they may work out expensive, however I am not sure whether also to consider re-turfing this spring. I am just concerned that if it is some type of disease in the lawn then it would just jump to the new lawn too. 

I think the dog has something towards the problem, but I do not think it is all her fault as the patches are not all where she tiddles. Any ideas?
