tadpoles in December

I was amazed to find tadpoles in the pond today. (Not a very good picture I'm afraid) I think they are toads. The pond was frozen over all day about two weeks ago. I hope they survive the winter.

Help Overwintering Geraniums - rotting??

Hi Cate,

I agree with everyone's advice about removing brown leaves. The fungus on yours would probably be botrytis not powdery mildew so spraying with milk wouldn't have helped but make it worse as the leaves should be kept dry. Hope you get them through the winter.

I've still got a few outside so must get them in before I get caught out. It's been so mild that I forget we are in the middle of  winter.

Good afternoon all.

Lovely day here as you can see from the photo I took earlier of some long tailed tits. They are my favourite birds along with swallows.

I agree with punkdoc, getting outside as much as you can in the Winter keeps the spirits up.

Must do some Christmas preparations. Keep finding things to do outside that don't really need doing. I'm easily distracted but can't put it off much longer.

Morning Kef and Verdun,

No rain here yet Verdun and I'm only about 10 miles from you. Hope your dog can cross his legs 'til you get back. Dog's are so perceptive. My dog knows when I'm going out without him. Maybe it's the different clothes.

Good morning Dove and anyone else who's awake.

Hope Panda doesn't feel too bad this morning. She's not on breakfast duty is she?

Tragic to watch those houses on the east coast tumbling into the sea. They couldn't get insurance apparently but they did look to be built on sand.

I hope Verdun's cabin is well back from the sea but it has been very mild and calm down in Cornwall so maybe all will be well.

Good morning everyone.

Hope all are safe. Just watching an amazing sunrise. Must mean we are getting our share of weather soon.

Sad about Nelson Mandela but he's been ill for so long and glad he's at peace now.

Alcofrolic fruits for Christmas

I've also made raspberry vodka, which is lovely after just a few months. I made blackberry vodka three years ago which wasn't very drinkable the first year but it's really good now.

My son uses gin for his base for drinks but I much prefer vodka. He told me of a recipe he'd read about where you put a whole lemon in a kilner jar and fill it with gin and sugar then put it into the boot of the car so it's continuously being shook up then forget about it for a couple of years. Just to remember to remove it if you sell the car in the meantime

Good morning all.

Hope everyone is well and coping with the run up to Christmas.( I think we can mention it now).

Been promised sun today but still very overcast. I try to get out in the garden most days just for the feel good factor. Feeling a bit lazy today though but might feel better if the sun does appear.

Sad about your chicklets horse. It's just not right that owners can suudenly want him back after you've had him so long. We had a shetland on loan and after a couple of years the owners said they were going to sell him. Of couse we had to buy him  and have still got him. He's 30 now so just living a life of luxury in his retirement. Him and his buddy help me cut the grass and provide manure so I suppose he does earn his keep.

Active wasps !!

Hi Pete, There are still a lot of wasps arround but I think mainly queens looking for hibernating places.

I saw a peacock butterfly yesterday. It was warm in the sunshine but still frosty in the shade.
