Verbena bonariensis Verbena

Posted: 24 June 2012
Overall: Without a doubt my favourite plant. Although it's a tender perennial and has taken some time to establish - the first year I thought I'd lost it - once it begins to seed itself it seems to go from strength to strength. This year it's popping up in gaps all over my front border. Being so tall it doesn't crowd anything else out. It looks fab against Sambucus nigra Black Lace, and Cotinus Coggygria. I have the form Grace, but it would also work with Royal Purple. It gets lots of sun and is in moist, but well drained soil. A must if you plant for pollinating insects

Clematis 'Warszawska Nike' Jackmanii Group clematis

Posted: 22 May 2012
Overall: I've had this clematis now for 4 years and it goes from strength to strength. Last year it was a mass of blooms which lasted from May to July. This year, due to the cold and wet weather it's still in bud, but there looks to be even more than previous years. I cut out all the old growth in February. I accidentally broke off a piece of new growth, so put it in a pot of compost and it's growing away happily. My soil is well drained, in full sun, and neutral.
