Red Robins?

Thanks BobTheGardener, I still haven't tackled the red robin, is it too early to propagate and prune back at this time of year, what do you think?

Red Robins?

Does anyone have any tips or success stories on proagating Red Robins?  I have a couple of red robins planted outside my living room window (south facing) but they are overgrown and need to be cut right back. I haven't pruned them at all yet and I'd like some advice on how to propagate them while I'm pruning them.  I hate the thought of losing out to all the new cuttings I could have from them but not sure how to do this and continue looking after the new cuttings.  Can you help?

Thankyou so much Salino, I am a novice gardner and need all the help I can get. I will do as you've suggested and hopefully my rhod will repay me with plenty of flowers. Thanks again.

I have a Rhododendron in my garden and it has looked very poorly for a long time now, I can't remember when it last flowered (I think I fed it with something that obviously didn't agree with it - a long time ago, and it hasn't flowered since.)  Anyway, in the last week it has flowered and looks lovely, but I would like to improve it and give it a little TLC for not dying on me, any suggestions anybody?

Thanks Verdun. Does that mean I don't have to pot them in a 'loam based cuttings compost' like I read somewhere? I have two large red robins and want to get as many cuttings as possible from it so any tips/advice is very welcome.

Berkley, can I ask you what you feed your Red Robins, as mine have the black spots that Dirunda Mcilwraith mentioned. I would also love to prune and propegate thefew red robins that I have (to eventually make a hedge) but am afraid of not doing it right after letting them grow nice and big for a few years now. Please help a one is really big and needs pruning before it comes in the window.

Are Red Robins a 'Hard wood' shrub? When is the best time of year to propegate the red robin?

Thanks for the advice everyone, I think I'll return the 'Brown Gold'...I think my husband was fobbed off with whatever they had rather than what he asked for. Typical!  And yes sotongeoff I do live in Ireland. (Orignally from Manchester I must add.)

Can anyone tell me whether 'Brown Gold' soil enricher is the same thing as a Loam based cuttings compost?  Also, is it the right time of year to prune back my Red Robins and propogate the cuttings?  Thanks
