Glad to see this discussion as the question was on the tip of my tongue too. But, a quick point for clarification please. Should I cut off the spent flower heads only or both the flower heads and the stems? My question also applies to my lilies (which were beautiful when they were in full bloom). Thanks

Pesky slugs! Yes, we have had the odd frost or two here in sunny Croydon but I thought I had managed to protect them by moving them to the greenhouse - obviously not soon enough!

One of the three plugs looks salvagable but am not sure about the other two. Thanks again.

Thanks for the feedback and how bizarre that my initial message has disappeared!

The photo below show the 6 black velvet petunia plugs I planted in these 2 identical pots which contain the same compost. The pot on the left contains the plugs which appear to be dying (black leaves!). The pot on the right seems unaffected.

Both pots have been in the greenhouse for most of the two weeks since I planted them.

Below is a close up of the affected plugs.

Any idea why this is happening and if there is some way of me saving them?

Have you thought about choisya? It grows quickly, needs no 'know how' and is a pleasant yellow / green all year round.
