could be I suppose, cheeky bird! hope he doesnt come back to retreive his bounty...Ive put greem manure seeds in! 

who's burying the plums?

hi all, whilst preping soil for green manure, I raked 2 perfect plums up from just under the surface...2 teeth marks, but otherwise ripe and juicy....but who put them there? I havent seen any squirrels on the allotment site, so maybe not them? but who else would do that? surely not a rat? or a hedgehog? can anyone demystify the puzzle for me please?

I hadn't thought of missing Hampton Court...Tatton's on 20th July 8pm before GW...thats a real shame, I really look forward to seeing the expert show gardens and trying a bit in mine. I wonder whether anyone from GW or BBC are actually reading any of our comments? hello...anyone out there..........

Gardeners World - not back for 4 weeks!

I am really, really disappointed! GW is too short already, each subject is just given a brief mention, even my daughter (16) said last night that although she doesnt like GW (fibber, she always watches it with me...but its not street cred when youre 16!)...she doesnt think its long enough or goes into each subject enough. So many projects could show us how to make, or set up, or listen to expert advice on, than currently given air space for. Please can we have an hour long programme with more discussion and advice...please?? I love Friday evenings with GW, it's a full stop to my working week...I can immerse myself in my passion for gardneing...bit indulgent maybe...but hey, I work hard enough to indulge once a week. But no more for 4 weeks!!! now thats really taking the biscuit! not even any special GWs to make up for it? please BBC think on for next year...one hour programme each week with little or no sporting interruptions please....pretty please....

Hi all, Im assuming the lining before the liner will be next week....I looked at the size of the pond and thought...mmmm I feel a project coming on to enlarge mine!

Clay soil problem

oh happy-marion! a lady of sound advice.... the advice is spot on, I have a clay soil which over the past 3 years has been topped with my own compost mixed with horse manure. The first year I just watched the garden to see what there was, what my neighours were growing well, and spent the summer & autumn adding compost and just losening the soil, not digging it. The second year I shaped my garden how I wanted it and by last summer had completely changed the topsoil. I dont use any shop bought fertisliser (apart from fish, blood and bone which I use when planting shrubs and trees), I feed the soil not the plants. the only thing I will use for annuals including all veg and toms etc is 'nettle stew' as we call it. This year I have an allotment too, so am going to use comfrey there to see if theres any  difference between that or the nettle steeped liquid (with both, just use 1 part liquid to 10 parts  of water). I hope you enjoy your new garden for years to come!
