FairyGirl - It looks like a flag iris that one, in my last pond I had the yellow variety which looked similar. That looks like velvet is it tall?

Aw thanks JB I have two othe iris about to flower, I waited two weeks for this to actually open so I guess another two weeks and my others will open its really exciting as I don't know what colour those are going to be. I have very small flower buds on my peonies this year  last year they where massive.

Pond Construction

Our pond is a fish pond so ours is about a meter deep at one end going upto 50cm's the other. I think I read at the time of constructing ours that an ideal depth for wildlife should be around 60/90cm's for hybernating frogs. someone will correct me if I'm wrong . We have frogs laying ample spawn every year but very little survives with having fish!

Something for the weekend.......enjoying gardens and flowers.

The weekend would be a good time to visit http://www.helmsleywalledgarden.org.uk/ We had a run over there today, lovely little plant center and bistro too. Its looking rather stunning at the moment.

Evergreen Flowering climber

I had the same issue after re-doing the patio area. I wanted a fairly quick growing plant that would grow however on a shady border! I decided on the pyracanthafirethorn  it will grow in sunny spots and the birds love the berry's. I used to have on the south facing wall a gorgeous passionflower which used to fruit and the bee's loved it. I'm thinking of buying another as my honey suckle finds it too hot on this site.

The garden season got off to a slow start, however we've had a week now of lots of sunshine here in the north east and things have come on a treat. The flowers in my garden are starting to make an appearence.

This has to be the flower of the moment in my garden. A friend gave me a few variety's a few years ago and this is the first time I've had flower spikes from them. Sadly the names on their tags have faded so don't know what they are called.

Whats yours?

Robinia Tree problems...

.

A rubbish photo! But its planted now

Only a little specimen but fingers crossed it hangs in there! I wonder if these problems are to do with the extream weather we've had over the last few years as to why they're all struggling and dying back? I noticed a garden near to us have a huge one with lots of bare branches to the top. I wish we had known about the Gleditsia, My husband want's to plant one of those too! I think that may be one tree to much though!

What did you do in your garden today?

Posted: 06/06/2013 at 09:38

oh Sounds like I'm not the only one who detests overgrown ivy... well I'm about to head into the garden today to dig up the robinia frisia that I planted last year and has given up the ghost! and to plant a new one. then I'll mow the lawn and hope this sea fret burns back to reveal the blue stuff! Happy Gardening
