Thank you both.

Dove, last week it was the top two tiers of  branches. Now most of the leaves are coloured. the colouring in both pictures do seem to be different. Which is why I put both leaves up here.

Berghill I will go to the garden centre first thing tomorrow.

Hi Dove.

Its about 6 ft. tall and 5 ft. wide. Planted in a bed with roses and lavender. The trunk has a meter diameter between it. I planted it two years ago. last year we had no problems, and managed to get enormous delicious apples. Mulched it early spring with horse manure...I have no idea what's happened.

Whats wrong with myCoxes Pippin tree

Posted: 23/05/2014 at 22:07

I wonder if anyone can advise me. I planted my apple tree a year ago. It produced lovely apples last year, and there is a pretty good crop this year too. However over the lastthree weeks I have noticed rusty brown patches on the lower tier of leaves. Having looked again today, the branchesseemto havethe same colouring. What could this be? I have looked everywhere for information, but sadly I can't find anything.

French beans

Hi Greg. We grow french climbing beans every year in large plastic tubs, supported by sh tree branches/bamboo sticks. We have always had a brilliant crop. We put ours outside last weekend, and they're doing really well. I think plasticplanters are under estimated.

Greedy Starlings

Posted: 22/05/2014 at 21:29

Hello all.

Is anyone else having problems with these greedy birds. They gobble up everything in sight. Last year I was complaining that we wern't getting any birds in the garden. This year we have so many birds including these gorgeous looking starlings, but they're leaving me bankrupt. I have two cage feeders (squirrel proof) hanging from a feeding pole station, but they still find a way to perch and eat all the bird seed. I have even sectioned their suet cake to one corner of the garden, but that goes in two days, after which they start on the other feeders...help!! can anyone recommend a bird feeder which is 100%  'Starling proof ' I do love these birds and I do leave food for them too, but they're eating all the other birds food.

Thanks LL.

I never thought about cutting the larger nutsand putting them in a tubular feeder...great idea. that way the nuts will stay drier than the mesh ones!!
