Seedlings in greenhouse

It does not look like slugs, obviously that is what I first thought of!, 'difficult to articulate why it looks different. If it is slugs they are being very slective and must be very tiny....?

I have calabrese, fennel, tomato and other seedings now pottted on into 'root-trainers', in the greenhouse. Some apprear to have had their tops bitten? off while others have a sort of slime on them and look quite unhappy. I've been started stuff of in the green house for many years and not met this problem before. The compost is a mixture of peat free 'Miracle grow', John Innesand some vermaculite mixed in. What can I do....

Yes, I know, that's true! Maybe 'wild' was the wrong term. We want rough grass we'd cut just twice a year, with spring bulbs and early summer self seeding flowers which would make an area which can be used for the children to play in or to put the rug out in on warmer days. Also the Ground Elder is spreading.....

Clearing a large area of Ground Elder

I'd really appreciate any tips! I've heard black plastic for a year can do it, or  would we need to resort to chemicals?

We have an area approx. 160 square meters at the end of our garden which is thick with ground elder and nettles. It is partly shaded by trees and we would like to turn it into a  wild area with lots of spring bulbs and willd flowers! But how do we get rid of the ground elder and nettles? Would covering it in black plastic for a year do it?

Any other suggestrions?

We have approx 160sq m. covered in Ground Elder and Nettles, We'd like to turn it into a 'wild' area with grass and lots of spring bulbs. What is the most effective way of getting rid of the Ground Elder?
