Green manures without the digging ?

Posted: 31/08/2015 at 11:18

Hi all ,

ok, i have never used green manures before on my allotment but would like to try them this year to help keep down the weeds and improve the soil. I know the idea is to grow them and then dig them in ,in the spring a few weeks before planting. What i would like is some input on the idea of not digging in the manures but instead, covering with cardboard or fabric a month or two before planting and letting the worms do the digging for me. Has anyone else tried this ? If so, what were your experiences ?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and comments.

To have broccoli plants ready to plant in the bed straight after the beans, when should i be sowing my broccoli seeds ?

not tried it myself but have read somewhere (possibly on this site) that old, dried teabags sprayed with a muscle relief spray like deep heat work. placed around where the cats usually toilet, they find it irritates there strong sense of smell. Place them somewhere where they can be covered so the smell lasts longer.

hope this helps.

Hi all,

im quite new to gardening and still learning so please forgive my ignorance.

My question is this....what does everybody do with the previous years compost ? I know that many put it on borders and raised beds but surely if you have a small garden, you can only do this so many times before soil levels reach there limits ? Is it ever possible to reuse it?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or answers.
