my asters wont flower

Posted: 27/09/2017 at 08:27

It is nearly October and although my asters are covered in buds they are not flowering. I have given them a feed but still no flowers. Some have a bit of mildew but in previous years this hasnt stopped them flowering. The plants are 3 years old.

Thanks everone. I may have Roxanne in another border but it is about a metre tall. I did try Lithodora but it died and the same happens when I plant scabious. But I will have a look for some of the others you mentioned.

I have a flower boarder infront of a 6ft garden  wall and i am looking for low growing blue perennials. The border gets the early morning sun. On the wall I have a ceanothus and clematis, both doing well. Then at the back a couple of delphiniums, veronica, penstemons, scabious and tradescantia. My meconopsis died. The only low growing ones i have found so far are violas and campanula blue chips. Any other suggestions please.

Thanks for you suggestions. I have survived the first week and chelsea is keeping me interested this wee though i got a bit annoyed at the best in show garden. Perhaps i am missing something but i thought they were supposed to be show gardens not someones slant on an old quarry in malta!  I felt so sorry for chris beardshaw he was obviously disappointed. Anyway i have voted for his garden in the viewers favourite catagory. I hope he wins.

Oh dear i dont think the position i have in mind would be in their flight path. We have bird fatalities due to the patio doors and windows in our property not to mention the local cat population.
