This is the rose in question. I think the stems with the white roses on are all coming from the graft. Will ring nursery tomorrow for instructions on pruning and let you all know. I am a bit worried that there will be nothing left when I have pruned off all the offending bits.

I will try and upload a photo tomorrow. I sent a message to Style Roses where I bought my roses from and they have asked for a photo too, so may get a solution from them. Will post their reply.

rose problem

I bought a red hybrid tea half standard rose 4 years ago. It has flowered every year but I have just noticed that it is producing white foribunda roses this year! It has also put on much more growth than before. Any ideas what has happened and suggestions how I can get my red roses back. Thanks.

flowers which will thrive in long grass

Posted: 27/04/2014 at 20:55

My attempt at creating a wild flower type meadow is failing! My first mistake was clearing the ground and then sowing "slow growing" grass. The grass grew like topsy! So then I tried digging out patches of turf and planting reasonably established plants (a mixture of wild flowers and assorted perenials. I have been strimming around the patches to try and give the plants a chance. I have just done a stock take and about 50% have survived. Can anyone suggest perenials which would thrive in grass. By the way I tried yellow rattle seed £10's worth but none germinated. I have also grown about 6 varieties of wild flowers but they are still small and I dont know what they are as they were from a packet of mixed seeds. I suspect the majority are oxeye daisy.

Is it possible to secure a metal arch in two planters. If so how do you go about it and what containers would be best? teracotta pots,  wooden box planter, half a barrel or any other suggestions. There is a high wall behind where i am proposing to put the arch so there could be so

I have hybrid t, floribunda, standard and climbing roses in my garden. I gave them a bit of a prune in the autumn to prevent wind damage over the winter. I was going to give them another prune this weekend but the leaves are now opening. Will I damage them if I do this now?

I can't put them in the ground as the area is gravelled. I was thinking of growing the arch behind a garden bench so it would need to be 5 to 6 ft high.
