Thanks for the ideas. I have now purchased one off the internet, mid range price but looks good quality. Hope it arrives in time for the birthday.

Which Lutyens bench to buy??

Posted: 06/02/2014 at 11:39

I am looking to buy a 5ft version of the above as a gift for my husbands birthday but after surfing the net for hours am totally confused. I know that they need to be Grade A teak and from sustainable forests but that is where my knowledge ends. Can anyone help me find the perfect bench? I have found out that prices range from £200 to £600 for this size. I cannot afford the most expensive, more mid range and would prefer one ready assembled as my joinery skills are non existant. Many thanks for any help you can give me.

I will try to provide a picture next week if I can work how to add one to my post! They are on north east facing wall and the garden is enclosed. They only get a short spell of sunshine in the early morning. I planted them a little way from the wall and keep them well watered. They have grown about an inch since planting. I havent fed them yet

My rectangular pond has a small gravelled area behind it and then a 2m high brick wall. I am looking for ideas to make the gravelled area a pleasant seating area for summer. My french doors overlook this area too so needs to look attractive most of the year as I always sit this direction. I am thinking of a small lutyens bench but not sure what to do planting wise. Grow something up the wall from either a trough or large pot? Put up an arch over or behind the bench to grow something over, again would need to be planted in pots? Or my final idea is to grow some ferns in pots either end of tbe bench? Any ideas greatly appreciated.

My fruit trees are 2 years old. I have a bramley, a family apple tree, a cherry, a damson and a family pear tree. Last year the apple tree got covered in greenfly=no fruit. The bramley had one apple which fell off and was eaten by ants before I got to it. The pear and damson no fruit. We had a few delicious cherries once I had got rid of the ants which were trying to eat them. My question is how do I look after now to ensure some fruit in the autumn or am I expecting results too soon?

I planted 2 of these against my 2m high garden wall 2 years ago. They are struggling to grow and something is munching away at the leaves. Can anyone suggest a cure?
