Mosaic virus on Passiflora Caerulea

Posted: 07/04/2017 at 12:51

I had to cut down a Passiflora Caerulea which was growing healthily in a pot on my patio (which was being re-laid). New shoots eventually reappeared and I thought it had survived but then it began to sicken. I was unsure whether this was a potassium deficiency or mosaic virus, which I now know they're prone to. I fed it and added new compost. It died back in the winter and new shoots appeared recently but I decided to get rid of it just in case. I've now got a LARGE pot of compost and have just bought a rather lovely Clematis to grow in it's place. Will the mosaic virus (if indeed it was that) remain present in the soil to attack the Clematis? I don't want to put in danger but the thought of having to dispose of all that compost is a daunting one. Any advice is gratefully received

Talkback: How to grow potatoes in a container

Posted: 24/11/2011 at 15:29
A couple of days ago I noticed my Vivaldi potatoes planted in bags were looking a bit sick - leaves beginning to wilt and changing colour - copper purple tinge. I removed the affected foliage but today, paranoia made me get rid of the plants in case the problem was blight. I was worried that it would spread to my tomato plants which are at the moment in my cold frames awaiting planting out. I can't find any advice as to what to do with the compost however. Can anyone help, please?
