Cacti in flower

Posted: 13/07/2013 at 13:19

What a cool colour for a cactus - the only one that I have which has ever flowered is a searing orange, and my friend has a couple which are shocking pink. None of them have ever had more than 2 flowers at the same time - yours is lovely.

Hundreds of strawberry plants-what do i do with them

Honestly roy, these are tiny - I think they are only meant to be ornamental (they may not be the same sort as Polly has) as we have normal sized strawberries too.

Hampton court show

I haven't seen any of this year's HC, but I agree with you about the general focus on structure and theming.  I was truly disappointed with Chelsea this year (and last) - obviously the sponsors of the gardens like B&Q etc want to show off their wares, but given some of the displays they might as well have just built a patio.  I want to see what makes up a beautiful cottage/victorian/modern/water garden plant wise and not the engineering that goes into it.

That is the tidiest allotment I've ever seen .. where's the shed made out of old doors and windows?

If you have one of the hand held small strimmers, you can put your leaves in a plastic bin and chop them up with that (bit like using a whizzer in the kitchen).

HELP! plant identifying its ruining my life

If a neighbour's plant happens to die after coming into contact with some extra strength brush killer that you happen to be using in the garden of your own home ....

Lopping bits of conifer type tree

I have an Albertine which is currently sitting in a big pot looking for a permanent home.  They're pretty vigorous I think (and I could plant it tomorrow, patience not being one of my virtues).

Quick pause while I look up what Rambling Rector looks like, which is pretty much the sort of thing I was thinking of.  Does it repeat flower waterbutts?

I don't think I have the strength to dig it up and replace it and it actually looks fine from the front.  The back doesn't matter so much and now the fence is down I can plant something behind it anyway (there is further garden, used as a veg garden behind that bed, and there is 3 feet or so between the tree and the path).  Perhaps it would be wiser to leave the earth actually underneath it empty and extend the bed forwards in front of it.  Perhaps a decent rambling/climbing rose to break up the uniformity a bit?  The soil is pretty good.
