Greenhouse query

Posted: 14/05/2013 at 23:18

OMG really ???

at the moment in South Wales we have gale force winds and torrential rain that's been lashing down all day !!!  It's also really cold, more like March than May.

Plants are as follows -- Salvia, dwarf Phlox and plugs are Iberis.

Maybe i can cover them with fleece in greenhouse for extra protection ???

Greenhouse query

Posted: 14/05/2013 at 22:40

hello, having ordered a selection of perennials to encourage more Bees into the garden and having now received them, i now have a problem because due to the weather/cold nights i can't put them in my unheated greenhouse in case they die.

six of the large ones are in my kitchen and i'm waiting for the large plug plants to be delivered.

can anyone suggest where they should be put when i receive them ???

thanks

Things that thrive in large pots

hello, i have two large wooden planters that did contain Box topiaries. Even though i fed/watered them regularly they never looked really healthy so decided to put in the garden instead. I now have two empty planters and wondered (before i buy) what would be better suited to the planters.

The planters are on the patio and couldn't be moved elsewhere as there's nowhere else to site them. I did wonder about Dwarf Syringa as i already have a mini ceanothus in a large terracota pot on the same site ???

We're very exposed to the elements and no shelter in the way of hedging or trees.

Would welcome any advice. Many thanks

hello, am debating whether to buy a few Winter Flowering Jasmine (Yellow flowered) to put in very large containers on the patio.

my question is this -- will they grow well in containers ??

How and where to site a Bee house ??

Posted: 19/01/2013 at 17:46

hello, having decided at the beginning of last year to try and encourage more bees/butterflies and then planted the relevant plants/flowers (then we had the wettest summer so far !!!). i would now like to help even further by building/constructing somewhere for the insects to hibernate over winter.

can anyone tell me how to go about this and if there are any sites available to view on the internet ??

thanks, shazza

Poorly Pots

thank you for taking the time to reply.

the reason for putting things in large pots is because i don't have a huge garden, the plants were bought as Dwarf variety and am at a loss as to why they don't do very well at all, thought if they're bred as Dwarf then that's what they should stay as ???

anyway, will have to ponder for a while before deciding what to do with them because the Hazel is in a really large glazed pot that i can't actually move.

Poorly Pots

Posted: 05/01/2013 at 16:24

hello, happy new year to everyone. haven't need to ask a question in ages but now have a bit of a problem

have noticed that the above shrubs which have been in large glazed ceramic pots for several years aren't looking as healthy as they should be. none of them did really well at all last year (bearing in mind the constant rain we all had), and they don't seem to have grown very much either. none of them produced any catkins the previous year and don't look as if they're going to this year either.

my question is this -- if they are left in pots, do they NOT grow as big as something which is in grown the ground ?? If this is correct, then how do i encourage healthier growth with a view to eventually having plants that do produce catkins ???

many thanks
