I have a Morello cherry, about 4 years old, which I’m growing as a cordon on a north-west facing fence. It makes prodigious growth, I prune about 75% each year. However it has so far produced half a dozen cherries. I’m guessing the soil is too fertile in that spot of the garden but I can’t move it elsewhere. I have a similar aged dessert cherry which is producing a reasonable amount of fruit.  Is there any way I can encourage more fruit and less growth?

Sweet Peas

Posted: 21/07/2013 at 15:36

I've grown sweet peas for a number of years. This year the stems were very long initially but have got shorter each picking so now they will fit into an egg cup.

I planted them in well manured slightly alkaline soil mixed with multipurpose compost in a sunny position in the garden.

I can't remember such consistently short stems. Is it the variety?

Any solutions?

I have just cut down an old honeysuckle which I inherited when I moved to the house 5 years ago. It never had more than a few small flowers. I want to replace it with one or two more. I shall not plant in in exactly the same spot but perhaps 2 or 3 feet away. I will be north west facing. Any suggestions on a heavy flowering scented variety and how should I prepare the soil?

Sheila's just gone out - husband Brian here.

We've looked at this, and the furthest we can get with uploading images is that the facility will be 'available soon' - also, there aren't the text tools here that are shown on the illustration.

Is it possible that this facility isn't available in all areas?

We've explored the possibility of HTML v Plain Text, but there doesn't seem to be a mechanism for toggling between the two. Hope we're not missing the obvious, but it does seem that quite a number of people are having the same problem.

Good idea, thanks. How do you do that?

My kitchen window faces north and towards my side entrance which is about 1.5m wide. It gets some evening sun. Could anyone suggest some plants to give interest for as much of the year as possible? They would need to grow about 1.5m but not damage my neighbour???s fence or have invasive roots. I have made a simple narrow raise bed to accommodate them.
