I think this is a bracket fungi of some sort but have been unable to find out the exact species.

There are a few of them scattered on different branches on the tree. I have pruned the branches back but they appear woody and dead. What should I do now? Is it better to remove the fungi from the tree or can this do more harm than good. The tree is about 30 years old.
