My neighbours dont want me to use my land to grow a garden

Posted: 14/05/2015 at 21:22

Thank you everyone for your advice and kind words.  The two neighbours closest to me are the ones that have been quite rude to me and seem to have the hump that I bought the land and put a fence up at the front.  I think perhaps I should just put my woods up for sale and look elsewhere to plant a garden?

There is not a right of way across the land and the deeds say that the entire plot should be fenced but the previous owner didn't do this so people got used to walking across it.  I reported it to the police and they said it was criminal damage but unless I know who did it I cant do anything.  They said just put the fence back to show it belongs to someone and is private but I cant afford to keep doing this.  A man at the Council knows I want to tidy the area and plant things and he did not say I needed planning permission?

I have a passion for gardening and do not own my own home so bought myself a plot of scruffy woodland to grow my dream garden.  I thought the people in the road would be delighted when I cleaned it up and planted beautiful shrubs and woodland bulbs on my plot.  No!  They insist in walking across my land and use it as a dog toilet and a place to dump their garden waste.  I put up a fence and within days it was vandalised  I am devastated. What can I do?

How do I get a Tree Preservation Removed?

I recently bought a piece of land in a residental road.  The land is just scruffy woodland and has not been managed or kept tidy and here dont appear to be any beautiful trees. I wanted to plant my dream garden on it as I live in rented accommodation and longed for a garden of my own.  Before I even got started the local residents wrote to the Council and got a Preservation Order put on the whole of my plot.  The Planning Officer has given until Christmas Eve to appeal. What on earth can I do as I spent my life savings on a plot that is useless unless I can get this removed?

Ladybirds

Posted: 27/10/2014 at 11:34

My home has turned into a ladybird hotel over the last few weeks.  There are clusters of them forming in corners of my porch and kitchen.  They are all piled up on top of each other and look like they are here for a sleep over.  I was going to buy a ladybird box but noticed that these have lots of separate little holes.  I assume one hole for each ladybird to hibernate in.  I guess they actually like to all sleep together judging by the clusters of them.  Some clusters have about 20 ladybirds in.  Not sure how I can move them?  Dont want to put them outside as it might kill them.  Any ideas?

Linseed is different from flaxseed grown for fibres

Most people say that Linseed and flaxseed are the same thing.  There is a farmer who grows Linseed for its oil and says the flaxseed plant is about 3 ft high and grown for long fibres.  The Linseed plant is about 1 ft high and produces lots more flowers and seeds.  Does any one know the latin name for the variety to grow Linseed?

My poor rhubarb has collapsed!

My poor new rhubard plant was planted last year in a huge tub of fresh Miracle Grow.  It grew a few shoots then the leaves turned orange and the whole plant collapsed.  This year it has sent up new growth and is starting to do the same.  Is this some kind of disease?  It has the Award of Garden Merit for performing well but something has gone very wrong!
