Blackbirds

Posted: 20/07/2012 at 10:41

I have just been watching a male blackbird helping himself to our raspberries. He walks along the row and when he finds a ripe one he jumps up and pulls the bery off. Clever little bird

Last year he would bring his son along to show him the ropes and watching his first attempts was quite funny.

I could watch the birds all day......if only I didn't have work to do!!

Thank you greenfingers. We had a good garlic crop so can spare a clove or two especially if it saves my lovely lilies!

Mine has insinuated itself between the echinaceas, and as it matches the colour scheme there, it will be allowed to stay

Lily beetle

I need some advice before I have just soggy stalks in place of my regale lilies! I have never had as much trouble as I have this year from this beetle  (and such a pretty thing too!!)

And, I presume its the larvae? Slug like in looks and feel, urghh !

On a recent tv gardening program, a lady who grew lilies commercially, advised a spray of garlic 'juice'. She didn't say any more than that so I don't know quantities or how to make up? Would growing galic near the lilies do the same? Has anyone here any useful ways of keeping the critters down, organically, please?

Hi, Im new to this forum and need help please

We moved into this house 3 years ago and have done a lot to the garden and every now and again we find a plant that wasn't there the year before!

Can anyone tell me please what this one is? The plant is about 4 foot high and growing in sun (although I think there is one further down the garden in semi shade)

The flowers are tiny, especially compared to plant and leaf size. I have no idea!
