Buy or make a raised pond

Posted: 16/07/2013 at 12:14

Hi i can understand your situation, over this year i have been terracing my garden and wanted a pond so last month i incorporated a block pond (2 blocks high 2ft X 4 blocks about 5-6ft long and 2.5 block wide.

It was very easy to do and then lined with pond liner, and topped with decking board, last weekend i decided to add a water fall and over the long weekend and with a few tweeks managed to get all working.

The wildlife love it and with the use of freecycle i even managed to get a load of free plants and lillies for instant impact.

HI Alan the cement was a normal mix of sand and cement but i added a black pool paint seen in image 8 just upto above the water line, even though the cement wont harm the pool it will absorb water over time.

Garden Pond and Waterfall Frog Invasion

Posted: 15/07/2013 at 11:15

Over last weekend i decided to improve our recently constructed pond by adding a new water fall feature.

We have been trying to encourage frogs, newts and other water creatures into the garden and once the pond was created the watefall was going to be a great addition.

With a few free stones and rocks gathered from friends and a great supply of free pond plants off freecycle i have managed to create a great added feature for our garden.

I cant believe we have new habitants already with frogs moving in already.

What do you do with Allium Bulbils

We have been growing 3 Allium Gladiator Bulbs and planted them in a large tub this year for the first time.

They are about 3 feet tall now but the heads have started to show strange white nobules in the flowering head.

Can anyone help with what we do with these, or how we promoigate these we are very novice gardeners.
