Begonia looks odd !

Posted: 19/10/2012 at 13:14

They are growing sideways

It is the smaller female flowers-not male- you are supposed to remove to get a bigger flower-frankly I don't bother

It may be as Alina says just the variety or lack of light

The trailing one was not what I expected-it looks fine to me.

I don't think you have anything to worry about

Help! Lavender gone leggy - what to do

My lavender is huge, but still very healthy looking. Should I prune it right back for the winter. It is very long, but not thin or woody looking and the purple flowers are looking a bit grey now. Please help, as I don't want to kill it!

You should take Emma's advice above-it won't hurt to trim it back now- but also they root dead easy from cuttings-so take some of those with the trimmings.

Alstroemeria overwintering

Posted: 19/10/2012 at 11:33

I have had alstroemerias growing in the borders for the past few years-and have survived bad winters-before that they were in a container and were quite happy in an unheated greenhouse over winter-my feeling is despite their exotic look they are a lot hardier than we think

As Alina says split in the spring

Talkback: How to grow tomatoes in a greenhouse

This is going to sound silly but - I grow tomatoes from seed in greenhouse when all crop has been picked do you get rid of all of the tomato or do you keep the remaining plant perhaps cutting back for the following year? I've also started fresh each time?

Start afresh each year-it is just not worth the effort to try and overwinter old plants -compost them.

Hello housewives everywhere

That is jolly interesting Gary-I knew I had things right all along-packed in the fags years ago-I shall now live a long and prosperous life-I think

Pam -the aliens may have landed-have you checked the back garden for strange beings?

Dog fouling on lawn and in the soil

Posted: 19/10/2012 at 10:16

Dogs are a creature of habit but dog fouling is not only offensive but also the owner is committing an offence

It may be tedious but you need to identify the culprit and trace that back to the owner-a bit of vigilance is required-if it persists contact the local dog warden who can offer some advice-I would be reluctant to start buying scarers at this stage

But then again it maybe cats
