Why the Gap?

Lowenna-

It is all about editing and pre-production-If you allow say roughly 20 minutes in Monty's garden then they probably film around 2 hours, then you have to allow for setting up cameras, lighting, sound, perhaps re-shooting things for technical reasons or outside noise etc-that that has to be edited down to fill the allotted time

All this takes time and it is obviously done in post production

Secondly there may be other commitments that a presenter has be they private or professional-we don't know.

I am sure there are many reasons why it is filmed a week ahead-at the end of the day it is just a week and don't see that it matters that much

You cant buy nitrogen as such-but all plant foods contain levels of nitrogen as do animal manures-plants convert the nitrogen in to growth so a high nitrogen feed will promote green leaves but at the expense of flowers -it is all about the correct balance and what you are trying to grow- it depends on how you feed the soil and the plants

Loz- if you can hear the seeds rattling in the pods then yes-if not leave them on a bit longer-cut the plant back to healthy material-you may get a second flush

No fruit on my redcurrant

Posted: 11/07/2012 at 21:31

My rule with pruning is if in doubt dont-especially with fruit bushes some fruit only on old wood ,some on new wood, then there are summer fruiting raspberries that produce canes for fruiting next year and autumn ones that fruit on this years canes that grow in the spring

It is a complicated life at times-you redcurrant will be alright next year.
