Natural Weed killers?

Posted: 01/07/2012 at 15:20

Natural and without chemicals is tricky-I have kept dogs for 40 years and they have never been affected by anything I may have used in the garden-if it is applied in accordance with the instructions.

However leaving that aside salt-which is a chemical-works on broadleaf weeds like dandelions-vinegar I have heard people use-or you just have to dig them out.

For weeds on paths etc., use a flame gun

I had to water some pots anyway-the rain bounces off the leaves

Are we all excited about the footy?-didn't Andy play well-the newspaper cliche is "at the eleventh hour"-I would have missed my coach

But why is is people who don't know they have won-there is a conspiracy lurking-the winnings go to good causes

I have last nights winning numbers will that do?-the euro-millions winner from a few weeks back has still not come forward-I do not understand why you would not check your ticket-how come there are millions of people who want to win and buy a ticket yet winning ones go unclaimed -strange

We keep getting showers the washing is wetter than when it went out.

I ordered the free perennials from Thompson & Morgan which were to be despatched by the end of May. This came and went and an enquiry to T & M brought forth 'a delay due to weather conditions in the growing of the plants' and a further delivery date which was ' the end of June'.  Now, after a further enquiry I am informed it will be the end of August, am I being given the run-around by T & M yet again? At this rate the summer will be gone (if it isn't already) and I'll be planting bulbs. Anyone else had this problem?

Quite a few-read this

I have 12 plants and this year I have had a crop that wouldn't fill a desert bowl ,is it the weather or something I'm doing wrong ?

Are they new plants this year?

Talkback: Ants

Ants in a compost bin is usually a sign it is too dry-give it a good drenching and they will go elsewhere

Gardeners World - not back for 4 weeks!

GW is off air for two weeks because of Wimbledon-the other two weeks would appear because of televised Prom concerts

This does happen ever year-but cant recall it being 4 weeks in succession

As I have said before BBC1 and 3 are the designated Olympic channels but that does not mean that all usual programmes will be shown on BBC2-I think we have to accept that this year of all years GW might get disrupted-we have seen 14 episodes out of 31 so there is still plenty to come.

I am not sure that there is a sure method to be honest-just turn the soil over to expose and hope the birds have them

Perhaps others have a solution?
