On the beans if they flower early that is a sign of stress- they want to set seed-they will probably grow as normal now Summer is here for 72 hours-enjoy

It is going to be an expensive month-hols and road tax to pay for

Earlier today saw another female stag beetle and just rescued this male from the chicken run-it was not happy at all !!

I appreciate you have dismissed  slugs or snails but they are usually the culprit and snails will climb up the sticks-go out after dark with a torch and I think you will find something munching.

When you say you have used slug pellets have you renewed them after rain -are they scattered about and not in piles?

It is only a 1600cc car-does that qualify as a guzzler?

Flower stem?-remove it you do not want it wasting energy by flowering and producing seed.

There have been a lot of reports about this- its due mostly to the topsy-turvy weather
