Is my acer no more?

Posted: 28/05/2012 at 10:35

I had a healthy acer growing in a pot and earlier in the hear transferred it into the garden-it came into growth fine then the leaves started to wilt and on return from holiday the leaves had virtually disappeared into crispy left-overs

I don't think the move had anything to do with it and am sure I have read about this before-here were also some white fungal spots on the trunk which might be signs of disease?

Have dug it -cut it back and dumped it at the top of the garden.

Is there any hope?

Butterflies

Karen-that was the point I was trying to make- only you put it better than me.

It is the gardener's dilemma -if you encourage butterflies you will caterpillars but you don't want caterpillars you can't have butterflies.

Help - pricing toms

I sold some excess tomato plants at 3 for a £1 just by putting a sign up in the garden-people seemed happy to pay that-it covered the cost of the seed, pots, compost etc with a bit left over for the money box-does that sound a fair price?

What is the difference between showing toes and fingers-we all have them-perhaps toes are not so attractive??

@Figrat-one of my plants leaves has turned yellow overnight-I wonder why-might have to sow a reserve-any ideas?

@WS-whenever I advise someone never to cut back into old wood with lavenders someone always posts smugly that they have done it and they re-sprout--sort of proves that gardening is not an exact science

Clearing up around the site where I grew runners last year 2 roots at least are sending up new shoots. Feel a bit mean digging them up. Any thoughts?

From what I have heard about growing from old roots for some reason they don't do well but other than that it is something I have never tried-my feeling is if it was good practise we would hear more about it.

Happy as always to be proved a numpty
