HELLO FORKERS!

Posted: 11/07/2014 at 06:47

Morning all ....... Right I have decided to clear the bed under the grapevine..... It's a mishmash of tatty plants.. It's a narrow bed in full sun but what to plant mmmmmmmm ....... I want something low- mid height so not to distal act from the grape vine, bushy to fill the space with scented flowers to fill the house with scent as it's by the patio doors in the living room.... The soil is sandy and quite shallow..... So apart from lavender ( which is all I can come up with) any suggestions????????

Mice!!!! Mine fall foul to them every year.... When they are green slugs and snails like A bit of spice as well..... And to top it off birds don't taste or are not affected by capsicum oil which puts the heat into our chillis so have been known to have a peck when other food is sparse

HELLO FORKERS!

Morning all oh chicky thank you very much I'm soooooo excited now lol can't wait to see hedgehog street although I think our efforts to attract them have worked as I do keep finding poo that I think is hedgehog poo!!! Lol worryingly enough I don't think he's that bright tho as we always find it near the boot scraper ( we joke he's mating with it) or the back door mat!!! Found out yesterday that my cat has a massive tumour and is dying  I'm very annoyed with the vet tho. £675 so far just to be diagnosed with sedation X-rays and blood tests and he was pushing me to spend another £1325 to get an ultrasound and a biopsy Obviously with sedation and x2 overnights.... Now I would spend it but hes 17 years old so I can't think it's gonna buy him much more time, and the time he does have left I want him to enjoy and not be prodded poked and spend in and out of the vets. The vet looked at me as though I was callous and uncaring but it's a lot of money for anyone but it's basically a family holiday!!! So he's on palliative care of steroids. He's in no pain and still as feisty as ever lmao hence they had to sedate him to take blood!!!!! right coffee and paperwork mountain!!! I do have a dilemma I will need all ur help with later xx

Moth larvae on chilli plant?

Posted: 09/07/2014 at 07:31

hey gala.... It's quite a common misconception that pests don't go for chillies cause they are hot!!! The capsic oil which puts many pests off is normally just under the outer skin of the fruit and also in the filaments that hold the seeds ( thanks garden maiden for the glowing reference) moths and butterflies are rare but not unheard of I am afraid. But not something I have ever been blighted by ( now talk to me about mice eating my chillies!!!) all I can suggest is what ur doing unless you go down the chemical route! Even then the damage is done. What type of chilli is it? We are just about to have a 2 week heat wave so I would say wash the plant down using your fingers to clean off any eggs on the leaves and then leave outside for a while.... If it's a hotter variety of chilli place a little olive oil on your hands before you do so to prevent any of the oils permitting your hands ( don't want any chilli related accidents!!!!)  hopefully they will crawl off and eat something else cause I can't think chilli is their first choice!!!! Sorry I can't pin point your bug I will continue to research and email a friend who is my guru..... In the meantime
