Christmas Amarylis

I've kept 2 bulbs, both still have strong green leaves. But ..... the bulbs are now small. Half the size they were originally.  I will admit to not feeding them very much!  So is it worth keeping them?  Mags

cucamelons

I think they were talking about them on Beechgrove Garden programme on Sunday.  I think they transplanted from 3" pots into a greenhouse floor (but I could be wrong about that!). Perhaps you could try to get it on i-player or something.  Mags

white cotton ball looking stuff on plants in garden - also some cobwebs

Posted: 22/06/2014 at 14:18

I've just had that stuff on my potted, 10 year old, Acer.  I had it 2 years ago and sprayed it with Provado and that got rid of it but this year the insect has been worse.  As before, a good spray seemed to work BUT now the acer looks as if it is dying!  A lot of leaves are going brown.  So be careful what you use on which plants.  Mags

What is this pest?

Wooly aphid I think.  Anyway, the Provado seems to have done the trick as there is very little of the pest visible today.  Thanks for everyones help.  Mags

Yes, I googled and  found a couple of pics that look like my problem.  Interesting to see that the bonsai acers at Kew Gdn have the same problem!  Thanks very much, Mags

And what is under the white sticky stuff isn't an aphid - more like a small maggot with a brown head.  Sorry, I can't supply a photo.  Mags

Plant feed for flowing plants

Posted: 11/06/2014 at 21:18

The experts on gardening progs I listen to on the radio all seem to favour giving flower plants Tomorite once a week, at half recommended strength.  Seems to work well for me.  Not suitable on plants that you are growing for pretty leaves (ie hostas) as it has the wrong nutrients for leaf growth.  Mags

There is tiny bits of white sticky stuff appeared on the leaves on an acer.  It seems to have a maggot type thing underneath.  What is it please?  Will Provado help remove it?  Many thanks, Mags

COSMOS pinching out

That's 3 of you say to pinch out so I'm sure that's the best advice. That's what I will do today then. Thanks, Mags
