Plant feed for flowing plants

Posted: 11/06/2014 at 21:18

The experts on gardening progs I listen to on the radio all seem to favour giving flower plants Tomorite once a week, at half recommended strength.  Seems to work well for me.  Not suitable on plants that you are growing for pretty leaves (ie hostas) as it has the wrong nutrients for leaf growth.  Mags

What is this pest?

Posted: 11/06/2014 at 21:11

There is tiny bits of white sticky stuff appeared on the leaves on an acer.  It seems to have a maggot type thing underneath.  What is it please?  Will Provado help remove it?  Many thanks, Mags

COSMOS pinching out

That's 3 of you say to pinch out so I'm sure that's the best advice. That's what I will do today then. Thanks, Mags

COSMOS pinching out

Posted: 28/05/2014 at 15:16

I've planted out my dwarf cosmos and they seem to be doing well.  But I didn't pinch the growing shoots out. Should I have done that, and should I do it now?  I've never grown these and it didn't cross my mind!  Thanks, Mags

Pruning a Salix Flamingo

Yes KEF, thanks you.  That's why I was asking about pruning it.  That reason, and it is getting too bit on one side. Mags

Camelia query

Thanks Dove - from reading these messageboards I think you know more about gardening than my trying-to-be-helpful neighbour!  So I will leave it as it is.  Mags

Pruning a Salix Flamingo

Posted: 17/05/2014 at 10:44

Is it to late in year to prune a Salix Flamingo ( hakuro nishiki).  I've looked at a couple of websites and they say Mar-Apl, after last frosts. Well, here in Staffordshire we are only just clear of the time for frosts, although it is several weeks since we actually had one.  Many thanks, Mags

Camelia query

Posted: 17/05/2014 at 10:02

Should I remove the branches from a camellia that are hanging onto the ground?  Someone told me that I should as leaving them encourages 'nasties' into the bush. I quite like them hanging down, but if the plant would be better if trimmed down there then I will do it.   It is 10 years old and about 4ft tall.  Many thanks.  Mags
