Agapanthus

My 5 year old pot of them never flowered. I told them last year was their last chance and threw some tomato feed at them.  Bingo - they flowered!  I think it is just patience!

Thanks for all the info, everyone.

I think maybe I should have cut it back a month ago. I will remember for next year.  Mags

Not many new shoots yet, so it should be easy enough to do. I will do it tomorrow. Many thanks for help. Mags

when to cut back Fountain Grass?

Posted: 25/02/2015 at 15:22

I bought a Fountain Grass (miscanthus kleine silberspinne) last year and it has given me pleasure all winter.  I see there are now new green shoots growing. Should I cut the whole thing back to about 4 inches, or just leave it to let the new growth push out last years old growth?   Thank you. Mags

tomato seed germination

I always make sure the compost is not cold from sitting in the garden.  I very slightly warmed a little up in the pot before sowing the seed this morning.  (in the microwave!)  Mags

Bee Pitstop

I am seeing a good number of bees on my spring flowering heathers. ( I put each plant in a large hole filled with ericaceous compost to get them off to a good start as I don't have the right sort of soil in my garden.)  Mags

I have one of these, but not variegated.  I keep mine behind the curtain so it gets no direct light.  I take care that compost never dries out and always water with rainwater.  It's not as tall (5ft) as when I got it but I think that is because I can't give it the humid conditions it would like.  Mags

Indoor Hyacinths

Sorry - just reread your posting. I've never done that, but I would continue to water & feed them in the pot they are in. Let them dry off after all leaves have died.  Re pot into your outdoor pot in Sept or when you see outdoor hyacinth bulbs on sale in shops. Mags

I will keep mine watered with water containing  plant food for the next month then plant into the garden in March/April  where I want them next year..  I would expect them to flower every spring for several years to come.  Mags

I think it just might be producing a flower spike.  Tiny so far but it looks fatter than a leaf..................... Fingers crossed!  Mags
