fungi identification please

Posted: 10/04/2016 at 13:07

Several fungi/toadstool have appeared in both front and back lawn. Can anyone put a name to them?  the cap is very dark brown and the biggest at 1.5 ins diameter, the gills are dark brown and the stem is brown and they stand about 1.5 ins above the grass. Sorry, I can't supply a photo.  I've searched several websites but can't find them!  Help appreciated,  Thank you, Mags

Bird song is back

It seems that the colouring of several birds (presumably males) have become much brighter. We have quite a lot of  Goldfinches and some are noticeably brighter yellow than others. Even some sparrows seem to have blacker heads than normal!  Mags

slug pellets and birds

Thanks to all of you. It doesn't say anything about birds on the box.  On balance, I think I will not use them.  I will continue with a torch and a tub lined with plastic bag with salt in it that I can just tie up and drop in bin.  Thanks again. Mags

Can no-one tell me about what effect  this stuff metaldehyde has if  birds take it in via slugs?  Mags

slug pellets and birds

I've got slug pellets containing metaldehyde.  Are these harmful to birds if the birds eat slugs that have ingested these pellets?  I would rather tolerate the slugs than harm the birds but would like to feed the slugs if possible!  Thanks, Mags

why so expensive?

I won't try saving the seeds then. Thanks very much. Mags

why so expensive?

Why are Sungold tomato seeds so expensive?  The packet I bought states approx. 8 seeds for £2.99, although there are 13 seeds in pack.

Can I save seeds from my crop for next year?  I will be growing Sungold and Moneymaker this year.  Thanks, Mags

chilli seed

Thanks all.   I know to be patient about germination.  I will sow a few this afternoon and soak some in tea tonight!  (never heard of that tip). I always sow into compost warmed slightly (in the microwave).

Thanks you everyone who has replied.   Mags

Thanks all for replies.

The are not F1.  If I pick a ripe-shrivelling pod should I do anything special with the seed before sowing?  (ie expose it to dry out),

I always start my chillies mid-Feb and keep on kitchen window sill until May.  .They always grow well, I just thought I could save the cost of fresh seed every year when I only use 4 or 5 seed out of the pack     Mags
