porridge oats

Is it ok to put out dry porridge oats for the birds in my garden?  My neighbour says 'Yes' the birds love them.  I say 'No' as when the absorb moisture the birds will become dehydrated.  So ....... what should we do?   Feed or not feed with Porridge Oats. Thanks, Mags

Feeding Amarylis

Posted: 18/01/2015 at 13:11

A gardening prog told listeners that we should be feeding Amarylis from when they start to produce a flower stem.  But they didn't say what with!  Should I use a general purpose feed, or would tomato feed be better.  And should this feed be full strength of 1/2 strength?    I have 2 Amarylis producing flower stems.  Thanks Mags

only leaves

Welshonion, I know they grow at different rates but on any I've had before, once they start growing leaves then they won't grow a flower! I feel I need to do something to force it!  And yes, I know that if there is no flower in there then nothing I do will help.  .  I'm going to repot it this afternoon just to see. I've also heard that storing them near apples will stop them flowering - may Morrisons where it came from had then too near apples and there is a flower in there somewhere!   Mags   PS my other 2 came from a garden centre.
