Fatsia Japonica

Posted: 24/04/2014 at 21:23

Hello this is the third year for my Fatsia but this spring its leaves are  looking very yellow and it has the odd faint white spots on some leaves. I have fed and mulched well and wondered could it be a result of the rains, although fortunately we had no flooding here

Hi I planted these pretty coloured bulbs from a selection of Allium bulbs bought from the GW offer and these have been appeared as well as the Alliums - we think they are lovely and would like to put more in wondered if anyone can identify them for us and also advise on how long they flower and are they perennials

Hi Jess - Try "Free Cycle" you post on there what you want to give away and people who want them just come round and collect. We have posted furniture and garden items and we have always had nice people come round and take them away

Carpet Planting

Posted: 19/03/2014 at 19:37

Hi I am looking for carpet plants for my border (east facing) I have in my head to plant neat blue and white plants that will spread nicely around the larger plant (to help with the weeding too). It would be perfect if they flower long into early autumn. Is this something that I can achieve?

How do I get rid of it

How do I get rid of it

Posted: 12/03/2014 at 17:35

Hi I have ground elder coming in large swathes through the lawn, we mowed it down at the weekend and have now dug a few new shoots out of the border nearest to the outbreak - thought about spraying it but was worried about killing the lawn as the area its in is around 2 meters - it wasn't there last summer so maybe the little birdies have dropped a seed or two and with all the wet we have had? Any ideas how to get rid of it would be appreciated also if I just keep mowing it will it replace the lawn?

The first one I've seen this year - 2014

uncovered a toad we have no water nearby so don't know why he is here or how he got here (could he have been dropped by a bird) - anyway a welcome addition to munch on my slugs long may he stay

Best Hedging

Many thanks for the advice going with the native hedging - looks like the mix will be Hawthorn, Blackthorn, Hazel, Beech, Wild Rose, Holly, Guelder Rose and Dog Rose. Just a shame we wont be able to see it as it will be behind the fence but hopefully will encourage more wildlife.
