Carpet Planting

Posted: 19/03/2014 at 19:37

Hi I am looking for carpet plants for my border (east facing) I have in my head to plant neat blue and white plants that will spread nicely around the larger plant (to help with the weeding too). It would be perfect if they flower long into early autumn. Is this something that I can achieve?

How do I get rid of it

How do I get rid of it

Posted: 12/03/2014 at 17:35

Hi I have ground elder coming in large swathes through the lawn, we mowed it down at the weekend and have now dug a few new shoots out of the border nearest to the outbreak - thought about spraying it but was worried about killing the lawn as the area its in is around 2 meters - it wasn't there last summer so maybe the little birdies have dropped a seed or two and with all the wet we have had? Any ideas how to get rid of it would be appreciated also if I just keep mowing it will it replace the lawn?

uncovered a toad we have no water nearby so don't know why he is here or how he got here (could he have been dropped by a bird) - anyway a welcome addition to munch on my slugs long may he stay

Best Hedging

Many thanks for the advice going with the native hedging - looks like the mix will be Hawthorn, Blackthorn, Hazel, Beech, Wild Rose, Holly, Guelder Rose and Dog Rose. Just a shame we wont be able to see it as it will be behind the fence but hopefully will encourage more wildlife.

Best Hedging

Hi we have just had a new 6ft fence put up the outer side faces a large field area used as a shortcut and we are looking to plant a hedge along it.

I have been thinking of Hawthorn but would like to put a reasonably fast growing evergreen in for the birds to shelter in has anyone any good ideas? Also do you plant 2 or 3 deep as I would like it to eventually be quite thick...

Egg Shells

Last year I had what looked like mutant giant slugs striped and really disgusting - collected them up in a bucket of salted water with my kitchen burger tongs (must add don't use them in the kitchen anymore) and then every couple of days poured them down the drain in the road...... they were the biggest I have ever seen...
