I might be the only one, but I quite like that it's a little old fashioned. It keeps it relatively user friendly, and I'm sure others wont be too offended when I say, there are a number of older members on the forum, and changing things rapidly mind bewilder them. I know for a fact that even for a young'un like me, some forums are so complicated on mobile UI's they're unusable. The fact it's simple and traditional will appeal to many on here.

If there was a large enough number of people accessing the site via mobiles I'm sure they would update it, but I really don't think there is.

I think it's a case of like it or lump it really

Orchid Lady and Fairy Girl I'm overwhelmed with your kindness, and I really couldn't expect you to spend money on postage at all! Plus as OL noticed we are the proud owners of an allotment now, and that's going to take up so much time it's almost a blessing that we lost so many seedlings. I've salvaged about 10 dahlias and the OH has about 5 marigolds left. At least they weren't particularly grand and difficult seeds to grow! There's always next year!

It was a plastic growhouse, it was the one night we forgot to weigh it down with our tools... *sigh* we'd just managed to resurrect the peppers too and they started to thrive, they'd been such a pain, but we persevered! Finding pepper plugs has been fruitless, homebase sell established plants, but where's the fun in that

I'd upload a photo but I don't seem to be able to upload one from my phone.

Just trying to source wood for raising beds or even just segmenting beds and a shed and bench! Bench is very important for munching packed lunch after lots of digging of course!! At the moment we can cope with carrying our tools to and from the house it's only three mins away!

I'm assuming so. Had no problems at all for maybe two months, then seemingly overnight they were eaten up! I've only found a few snails and slugs, and I did resort to using pellets, which I didn't really want to do, but now there is nothing worth saving. It's a real shame, I had maybe 200 established plants one week, the next I have about 5 left. I had plans of giving a bunch away to work friends to get them involved in gardening. Oh well! Such as life!

Allotments!

We got our allotment yesterday, after a phonecall to the council and then to the site rep, and did a spot of digging this morning. It's a huge 25mx8m plot, but is in need of a LOT of work. Originally it was just a mess of brambles which defeated the previous occupants, and someone who has not one, not two, but three plots told us that other plot holders would just chuck their rubbish - rubble, slate, bricks, wood etc on it is it's right by the gate, and they could just reverse in, chuck it all down and leave... Which means we can only dig a few inches down before hitting rubble in some spots... it's backbreaking and not very nice currently. Lots of digging to be done over the next few months, and lots of weedkiller on the giant brambles.

We are so fortunate to have such a large plot in a 6 week time frame. I'm just hoping we can in time improve on how many rocks and pebbles there are!

I've been rather disheartened lately. My greenhouse collapsed taking with it all the contents, and all my seedlings that had been transported outside were eaten up in a matter of two days. Seeing your gardens give me hope for next year, but in regards to my garden this year, it's a now rather a sad sight.

The OH planted some, the ones that did germinate in the greenhouse, there wasn't an awful lot, half died, all of the blue are dead, and he's just lost half of his purple, they've almost been as much trouble as the peppers!

Gardeners who love their feline friends

Posted: 20/04/2014 at 18:14

Oh I am glad this thread has picked up again! I love seeing photos and hearing about your pets. I am a big fan of the older feline gardeners here!

Only today have me and the OH talked about adding a younger little one to the brood... we do love black cats!

Hopefully more photos to come from you all!
