Good Evening FORKERS

Evening Verdun and lily.

Verdun, "double trouble" and "stainless steel"?! Thought you were making a joke, but have just looked them up and they are real and lovely they are too.

Moles AND Crane flies

Posted: 04/10/2013 at 12:18

Apparently, moles absolutely hate noise. I have read about a method in a gardening magazine here that apparently works. Knock some metal/iron rods about 8 inches deep into the ground in the area where the moles are wreaking their havoc. Hit something regularly against these so that quite a loud sound is produced which spreads underground. One must, however, do this quite frequently, so it works.

Sounds daft, I know, but may be worth a try.

Silica cat litter instead of vermiculite

Posted: 03/10/2013 at 06:41

waterbutts! Thanks for the tips everyone, but I'm a stubborn bugger, I've decided to try it anyway, I want to see if it works! If it does, I can kill 2 birds with one stone, the cats will have a nice clean litter box and I don't have to water so often!

Silica cat litter instead of vermiculite

Hi Lyn, yes, it does absorb liquid, that's the idea, I'm hoping I will not have to water my hanging baskets and pots so often. Vermiculite is very expensive and I have to order it from Germany. I will only add a handful per litre of compost and mix it well. Will definitely let you know the results.
