keeping slugs off the hostas

Posted: 18/05/2013 at 11:04

I think the slugs like the pale leaved/varigated ones, must be more tender.

None of my dark leaved ones have been touched.

Hi Dove, where are you going on holiday? Hopefully somewhere nice and warm to make up for the dreadful weather that's been going on lately.

Please don't use Jeyes fluid around cats, its extremely toxic to them. I know they can be a nuisance but killing someone's pet is a bit extreme. Waterpistols work well or you could try sprinkling pepper or chilli powder around your plants.

Cats will not touch anything with Jeyes Fluid on it, they keep well away. You can ask my two!

Known as the 'Parrot Plant', this is an exceptionally bizarre and easy to grow plant. Pinch out growing tips to encourage side shoots. A bright position out of full summer sun is required. Feed and water the plants regularly during spring and summer. In winter reduce water but ensure the plants receive as much light as possible. Minimum temperature 50F. Each flower has a curled spur and the color changes along their length; the flower color also varies from plant to plant. Requires a rather acidic, well-drained soil.

bulbs, daffs, tulips, hyacinths, alliums

Hi Brummie, well, I've got tulips that have been coming up every year in the same place for the last 17 years and I've never fed them, not to mention the daffs? Same with hyacinths, although the flowers aren't as big as in the first year. But if you want to feed them, then do it after dead-heading, as they are then building up strength for next year.

Seems as though this is not so unusual! Probably a mutation.
