Tree paeony

I planted a white tree paeony last year and very soon afterwards a spade fell on it and knocked off the top.  The plant has grown very little in height this year, with no buds or blooms.  Should I give up on it and buy another?

Identify my plant, please!

I'm not sure this is a Philadelphus as has been suggested.  The plant is 2m x 2m and woody stems.  Deciduous.  White flowers turn to face the sun but only last one day.  I'm interested in how to prune it.  Any suggestions appreciated!

Any idea what this plant is?  The blooms follow the sun and last one day only.  Woody bush, deciduous and about 2m x 2m.  Someone suggested a philadelphus, but not sure that is right!.  Thanks.  Sylvia

Please help me identify this plant!
