BobtheGardener - Thanks for the link, very interesting.

Marlorena - Thank you very much for that - do the birds eat the berries?

Rowan - which is best?

I'm beginning to think I need something else - Rowan's can grow quite large and I just want something  that it quite compact.  More research needed!

Rowan - which is best?

I want to replace an old dead Cherry Tree stump with a Rowan so that the birds can have the berries.  I don't want an enormous great tree, is there a more compact version?  Red berries are preferable.  We are on the South coast.

Penstemon pruning

I have an established Penstemon which flowers very well every year, but it's starting to get a bit woody and congested at the base.  I trim off all dead flower spikes etc regularly but I wondered whether I could cut it right down?

Clivia has a flower coming - what next?

Yippee!  I have a beautiful Clivia in full bloom at last.  I bought it into the house a couple of weeks ago and it put on a bit of height, then started opening up.  At least I know what to de next year now!

Long tailed tits are back!

Posted: 09/04/2016 at 11:02

I am so happy - we've had long tailed tits in the garden every year since we moved in during 2002, that is except for last year when we didn't see a single one.

We were very concerned but we think a squirrel or other predator got into the nest and killed all the young from the previous year.  They only have one brood and it's generally huge, around 10 or so babies, so it's quite possible.

Anyway, they're back again this year and it's so lovely to see (and hear) them!

I too get fed up with everything revolving around football - it drives me crazy!

Love watching GW, especially now there's a new dog on the block!  Nell and Nigel are great fun together and they obviously love Monty.

It's great that Beechgrove is back, lovely to see the team again.
