Apple Trees

Posted: 12/01/2014 at 16:28

I'm thinking of buying a couple of apple trees; one cooker one eating did want a Bramley but decided against that choice having seen I need two other apple trees to secure pollination success:/ haven't the room for big trees so I'm hoping I can have two patio sized trees and put them by the greenhouse area...any suggestions? I love Braeburns(has to be a juicy crunchy taste/texture) I can't bear biting  into a 'sawdust' apple...ugh! Hubby has instructed me to make sure I buy no more big trees after planting two labelled miniature Cherries which so far are 30ft high:/ eek! Pretty though Any advice would be fab

Contact dermatitis from plants

My son used to get this reaction from batteries! All he had to do was take them out of his toy car or whatever and his face would swell up and look horrific with veins really showing and his skin looked almost transparent, anti-histimine given and he was fine within five minutes...really odd:/ If I touch Petunia's without gloves I get a nasty lumpy rash on the palm of my hand and it doesn't go away for weeks:/

I had one of these in my garden last Sunday - it was 5 inches long crawling along the fence. We decided to launch it over the hedge after reading it gives you a painful rash:/

Can you put a low fence with some pretty trellis there instead? We did this and I've grown honeysuckle, clematis and  sweetpea's up it this year - beautiful and smells gorgeous in the evening I'm in a dip so the surrounding houses can all look down on me but since putting the fence up we can sit on our raised patio with total privacy hope you get it sorted

The age old problem of cats !

Posted: 25/05/2013 at 20:46

I have a cat who is normally quite happy to stay indoors....until he saw my beautifully raked seed bed....and decided it was his new loo!!! Now, revolting question folks but got to put it out there...I removed two yukky deposits from the seed bed; can I still go ahead and plant veg in there or do I have to remove loads of the soil because although I removed the poop I wondered if he'd pee'd there too:/ doesn't stink like he has...any suggestions? :/ I've since covered it with a taut netting frame so neighbours mogs can't leave me any yucky surprises:/

I put my nematodes down about two weeks ago and its looking very promising...only found 5 baby slugs the other night and they were on the grass not the borders and veg beds ....kind of miss 'the kill' though something very satisfying about squishing the little slimers

I'm the kiss of death to herbs it seems......

Thanks, I'll look for different varieties this week...I use lots of herbs in my cooking so need a constant supply..lemon balm has gone mad in my garden(typical as its the only herb I don't use and OH allergic to it...has major sneezing fits whenever he gets near to it lol) and last year Parsley grew to a mini forest in my veg bed but in the joy whatsoever..I'm trying them in the heated greenhouse too but I guess I'm being impatient again everything else I start off on the kitchen windowsill goes great guns so it is very odd:/

Okay, so I sow all seeds as instructed on the packets/gw site - they include Parsley, Basil and Chives....and if I'm lucky a few will germinate, grow about an inch tall then keel over and die on me:/ ....I don't overwater them and keep them on my kitchen windowsill  but to no avail...I have to resort to buying the supermarket herb pots which also keel over on me within a week and a half....any idea where I'm going wrong? I use Marshalls, Unwins and Suttons seeds...
