Plant ID please

Cross posted.

Cherry (esp if edible) would make sense as it's in the "fruity section" of the garden, which was well planned out by last-but-one owner. It's between a gooseberry bush and a tayberryy, and near a plum, greengage & Apple trees.

getting excited now, looking forward to cherries, nomnomnom

Can anyone recommend a good lawn edging tool?

Posted: 12/10/2014 at 19:55

I've found this Qualcast edger really good to use, and have used it to create the edges for a new flower bed cut from my lawn, as well as edging around the patio. Having the little platform to stand and push on makes it so much easier (and safer) to use, for me at least.

Gardeners' Logic???

Posted: 28/09/2014 at 15:23

Since moving into our new house with lovely big garden last summer I've started seriously propagating for the first time  ( previous garden was v small so I didn't really bother as didn't want lots of repeatend plants). This year I've "created" from cuttings/division at least 5 penstemons, 3 fucshias, 8 sedums, 6 heucheras, 5 hebes, 5 rosemaries, 15 ajugas (need lots of ground cover!), and a couple of pelargoniums. I reckon they'd have cost me about £250 to buy as plants, so have told hubby I'm now deciding what to buy with the £250 I've created   . It's Gardeners' Logic, surely?

Hubby doesn't agree, however he also doesn't think much of my "shopping logic" which says that if something is reduced  from, say £40 to £10, I've spent £10 but saved £30, so I have "created" £10 which can be happily spent on something else

Recording the weather in your garden

Posted: 28/09/2014 at 14:37

The earliest records held in the National Meteorological Archive are private weather diaries. The earliest original manuscript held there is for Rye in Sussex from 1730-1733!. They are used by researchers looking at trends etc. Significant ones are still sometimes donated to the Archive (I used to manage the National Meteorological Library and Archive  )

Talkback: Making plum vodka

Posted: 02/09/2014 at 20:13

I currently have 1.5 litres of plum vodka, 1.5 litres of blackberry vodka, and 1.5 litres of plum and blackberry vodka on the go. They all also have a couple of vanilla pods in, and some plum seeds.  Last year's sloe gin in also in the cupboard maturing nicely.

My friends and family are going to have a very Merry Christmas

another ID please!
